Sungrow, a global leader in PV inverters and energy storage systems, has unveiled its next-generation energy storage solution, PowerTitan 3.0, at the 2025 MEA PV & ESS Summit in Dubai. Designed specifically for the challenging climates and operating conditions of the Middle East and Africa, PowerTitan 3.0 combines advanced thermal management, innovative battery design, and grid-forming capabilities, setting new standards for efficiency, safety, and reliability.

PowerTitan 3.0 features a full liquid-cooled AC energy storage system, supporting two to four hours of operation. In its 20-foot configuration, the system integrates a 1.72 MW power conversion system with 6.9 MWh of batteries, allowing a single block to deliver 6.9 MW/27.6 MWh. Using high-temperature-resistant silicon carbide devices, the PCS maintains full power output at 55°C with up to 99.3% efficiency, achieving overall system conversion efficiency of 92%.

The system introduces stacked energy storage cells (684Ah and 661Ah) that eliminate corner stress found in traditional cells, reduce internal resistance, and lower the risk of lithium plating, short circuits, or thermal runaway. The cell design positions exhaust vents and electrode tabs at opposite ends, and each battery pack includes exhaust channels and a thermal insulation layer to prevent fault propagation. PowerTitan 3.0 also incorporates AI Battery Management 2.0, providing over 95% accuracy in lithium plating detection and more than 99% precision in thermal risk warnings. The optimized pack design increases energy density to 467 kWh per square meter, allowing a 1 GWh plant to fit in just 7,270 square meters—a 22% reduction from the previous generation—lowering both construction efforts and CAPEX.

PowerTitan 3.0 enables plant-level state-of-charge balancing through one PCS per rack and automated calibration, correcting SOC discrepancies across racks and blocks. This feature can increase discharged energy by up to 8% over the system’s lifecycle.

Built for harsh environments, the system features a top-only exhaust design for both ESS and MVS, preventing heat recirculation and reducing auxiliary power consumption by 9%. The AI Bionic Thermal Balance 2.0 predicts weather and operating conditions to control compressors and fans with ±1°C precision, further reducing auxiliary energy use by 10%. Combined with IP55 protection and C5 corrosion resistance, PowerTitan 3.0 delivers reliable performance in deserts, coastal areas, and sandstorm-prone regions.
