India’s Navitas Solar and the US’ Caelux Corporation have signed a five-year 5-gigawatt (GW) partnership to manufacture hybrid tandem solar modules combining perovskite and silicon technology in India.
The modules will pair Caelux's perovskite glass layer with Navitas' N-Type TOPCon silicon technology, targeting efficiencies of up to 28% — above the ceiling of standard silicon-only panels.
Caelux says its technology increases energy density by up to 30% and cuts levelised cost of electricity by 20% or more.
India has surpassed 150 GW of installed solar capacity, making it the third-largest solar market globally. The government's target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 requires roughly 350 GW of additional renewable installations within four years.
